Warning Signs and Symptoms Of Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the pancreas stops producing insulin. Insulin is a hormone that allows people to get energy from food. This happens when the body’s immune system attacks the insulin producing cells within the pancreas, these are called beta cells. Those who are diagnosed with type one diabetes can not prevent this diagnosis, it has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle choices. There is also nothing that you can do to rid type 1 diabetes.

I was diagnosed at the age of 7 with type one diabetes. Due to my mom researching my symptoms and discovering my diabetes on her own, I decided to share the signs and symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes for others who may be searching. I also included the link to a couple credible diabetes websites listed below.

  • Extreme thirst
  • Drowsiness or lethargy
  • Sugar in the urine

  • Stupor or unconsciousness
  • Urinating often

  • Extreme fatigue

  • Cuts/bruises that are slow to heal
